Yesterday, we proudly joined the global celebration of International Men’s Day here at Pennine Healthcare. This special occasion provided us with an opportunity to champion health and well-being while reflecting on the values that underpin our Heart of Life is Health Campaign, which has been a cornerstone of our efforts throughout this year.

To mark the day, we hosted a Health Day Workshop that aimed to promote awareness and offer practical support. Visitors from Livewell set up an engaging and informative session in our canteen, where they provided free advice and opened discussions on a range of vital topics. These included general health and well-being, tips for quitting smoking, heart health, weight management, and the importance of a balanced diet. To ensure our employees had access to actionable health insights, we also arranged free blood pressure checks for all staff members aged 30 and above—a proactive step in supporting long-term health.

During the lunchtime session, we were honored to welcome representatives from Prostate Cancer UK, our chosen charity partner for 2024. They delivered a powerful and enlightening presentation on prostate cancer, focusing on the key signs to watch for and offering guidance on when and how to get tested. Their presence was especially poignant given recent headlines about cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy’s diagnosis, which has brought renewed attention to the fact that prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men in the UK. This timely and meaningful conversation emphasized the importance of early detection and awareness in saving lives.

While International Men’s Day is a moment to celebrate and advocate for men’s health, our Livewell workshops were open to all colleagues. We believe that creating a healthier workplace involves engaging everyone, and we hope that all attendees found value in the expertise shared by our visitors.

At Pennine Healthcare, we are committed to ensuring that the Heart of Life is Health, and we thank everyone who participated in making this day both impactful and inspiring.
