This World Menopause Day, we are shining a light on the 2024 theme: Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). HRT can be a crucial tool in helping women manage menopause symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, and mood swings. As a treatment that replaces hormones that naturally decline during menopause, HRT provides much-needed relief for many women, improving their quality of life and allowing them to focus on their personal and professional lives.

At Pennine Healthcare, we are committed to supporting our colleagues through all stages of life, including menopause. We recognise that this phase can impact not just physical health but also mental well-being and overall quality of life. To ensure that women feel supported and empowered, we have established several initiatives aimed at fostering an inclusive and compassionate work environment.

In summary, our commitment is:

  • To provide our colleagues with a safe, cool, and peaceful recovery space to offer respite from the effects of menopause.
  • To adequately train all line managers so they can support individuals experiencing menopausal symptoms.
  • To make working life as comfortable as possible through reasonable adjustments.
  • To listen and act when we are informed about perimenopause or menopause symptoms.
  • To provide information and advice about menopause throughout our site.
  • To stock popular titles of menopause books and publications for loan to all employees.
  • To make menopause a social event by holding regular forums such as ‘Menopause Cafes’.
  • To appoint one Menopause Champion for every 75 people in the business.

These actions wouldn’t be possible without the ongoing support and consistency from our Menopause Champions: Laura Walsh, Jo Wootton, and Lisa Burgin, who are dedicated to ensuring that everyone at Pennine feels informed and supported throughout their menopause journey.

We believe in creating a work environment that allows our team to thrive, regardless of the challenges they may face. This World Menopause Day, we encourage everyone to take a moment to learn more about menopause, talk openly, and support those around them. Together, we can break the stigma and make life more manageable for those experiencing this transition.
